9:30 am - 10:10 am Exploring the Planning & Delivery of School Infrastructure Across NSW and Strategy for Future Growth
Gary White is responsible for overseeing projects that will deliver an easier and more efficient planning system as well as providing expert advice on projects that will help communities in the long term. With over 40 years experience, Gary has held some of the most senior planning positions in both NSW and Queensland. This session will explore:
- Understanding the planning approval process for school infrastructure projects in NSW and current projects underway
- The departments strategy for student growth into the future
- The departments commitment to school infrastructure across NSW
10:10 am - 10:50 am Award Winning School Planning Assistance (SPA) Tool: School Infrastructure NSW’s Development of Preliminary Infrastructure Plans for an Entire Network of 2200 Schools
School Infrastructure NSW [SINSW] has implemented
an innovative data analysis tool with machine learning
capabilities. The SPA tool equips 30 school asset
planners to scenario plan future school infrastructure
needs across each of their 2,200+ schools (and
for 15 years of population growth), through the use
of interactive maps, data visualizations and the
consistent application of evaluation criteria. The tool
has helped to shift SINSW from one-to-one school
planning to one-to-many strategic planning, enabling
their delivery of a long-term plan while considering
more data than they ever have before.
• Selecting useful data sets for the development of
planning and modelling tools, being empowered
rather than overwhelmed by data.
• Providing consistency and transparency for
planners, centralizing the planning process, and
increasing time and process efficiency.
• Bringing consistent analysis to local context,
the ongoing process of developing models that
account for local factors.

The IKC de Geluksvogel School in Netherlands is an innovative facility known for its focus on sustainably and its teaching approach which centres on the use of technology. This new school aims to strengthen the socio economic structure of its area by introducing a new digital education system.
- Understanding the choice to build vertically, thus reducing the cost of the school
- The architectural elements incorporated into this school allowing it to secure an A in the Frisse School Klasse (Clean school classification)
- Digital way of teaching making this school for the most part a paperless school

In this session Andrew Duffin will explore leading case studies taken from education infrastructure projects that highlight the design capabilities of modular in creating engaging school living spaces.
- Case study of St George Christian School which was constructed using flexible learning spaces
- Innovations behind Modupod which are modular units that can be assembled to create a range of learning environments
- Case study of Cainsfoot School which was able to be relocated to a new site in Brighton Le Sands through modular design
